The guest speaker welcomed during the business meeting of the third of November was Peter Robinson, President of the charity Safe and Sound Homes (SASH).
This organisation provides temporary shelter for young homeless people, in houses of volunteers in what is called the 'Nightstop' programme, and if required, more permanent residence to those employed, seeking employment, or studying. The latter especially are supervised by the organisation with the aim of reintegrating them fully in society.
Homelessness is an increasingly diffused societal problem and more and more people ask for help.
The York Rotaract Club will run campaigns to raise funds in support of SASH.
York Rotaract mentoring scheme is a powerful personal development tool through which you have the chance to motivate, inspire, challenge vulnerable children and have an impact upon their lives.
By taking part in this scheme, you will be matched with a mentee and have regular one-to-one meetings with the young person for an extended period of time. The mentee will be a primary school child who is in need of a mentor who could listen to his thoughts and help him reflect upon his life.
Some of the purposes of this program are to reintegrate the child into his family, group of friends, or school, to provide additional support to the family, to help the young person regain confidence and change his disruptive behavior.
